Close the gap between what science knows and what humanity can do with it.

Our mission

Make the world's scientific knowledge usable by AI.

The scientific record is distributed across generations of papers, databases, clinical trials, regulatory records, figures, supplements, and accumulated research. WIth AI, agents can search and synthesize this data at a scale no one has seen before. AI helps us draw connections we couldn’t see, to develop new therapies for patients.

But to find the right evidence, judge it, and connect it at the depth scientific work requires, AI agents need a world they understand.

GXL is building the knowledge layer that makes this possible. We want to help scientists ask more questions, develop new data sets, follow more credible leads, and turn accumulated knowledge into work that can save and improve lives.

Philosophy

What we believe

  1. More possibilities can be pursued than ever before.

Some of the most important questions in medicine sit between fields, buried in earlier experiments or scattered across sources no single person can fully follow. We believe better tools can help people see connections they might otherwise miss, which gives more promising ideas a rigorous chance.

  2. A small team should be able to ask a big question.

A physician-scientist or a small biotech may understand a disease deeply and still lack the time or resources to examine every relevant lead. We want to extend what those teams can investigate, so the size of an institution does not decide which possibilities get explored.

  3. AI should expand scientific judgment.

Scientists decide which questions matter, what evidence is persuasive, and what deserves to be tested. We build systems that help them work across more knowledge while keeping the sources, methods, and uncertainty visible. The point is to give capable people greater reach, while maintaining the rigor they require.

  4. The work must stand up to scrutiny.

An intriguing connection is a starting point, not a discovery on its own. It should lead back to the underlying evidence, withstand questions, and make room for conflicting results. We care as much about helping someone rule out a weak idea as helping them find a promising one.

  5. Building is how we act on that belief.

We are engineers, researchers, scientists, and builders drawn to the same possibility: that more of what humanity has learned can become useful to the people trying to move medicine forward. We build the infrastructure, test it against real scientific work, and keep asking what it lets people investigate next.

Founders

    Co-founder and CEO

    Christine Lemke

Christine is a repeat entrepreneur who has built several companies at the intersection of data, technology, and health. She co-founded and led Evidation, helping grow it from an early idea into a company that serves millions of people and supports real-world health research at scale. At GXL, Christine brings the company-building experience required to turn ambitious research into systems people can use.

    James Zou

James is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Data Science at Stanford University and, by courtesy, of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. His research focuses on making AI more reliable, human-compatible, and statistically rigorous, with applications in human disease and health. He is a Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Investigator, Sloan Research Fellow, and recipient of the NSF CAREER Award. At GXL, James leads the scientific vision for AI systems capable of working at the depth and rigor biomedical discovery demands.
